ADD-ONS CAUSING PROBLEMS Not logged in -   Reply

Hopefully I can get some help from somebody with more experience with flightsim (2002) than myself.....

After recently installing new aircraft and scenery add-ons I have encountered what I think is a bug caused by something I have installed.

If you have flown the flight in FS2kflts- San Francisco 28 ILS Approach you will have seen the red boxes used to indicate the correct glideslope to use.......

Now when I create a flight, nearing my arrival airport and on a course to intercept the glideslope, these red boxes appear, indicating the glideslope to me and removing the need for instruments. This seems to me as cheating and I would rather establish myself on the glideslope without this aid, for realism more than anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

are you referring to the vassi lights on the airfield? You get those in
real life all the time too. However you wont see them way back in fog or
cloud so you need instruments there. And theres EFIS (hope my spelling is
right) which is another guiding system. The idea I imagine is to give the
pilot every assistance in the preservation of his aircraft and passengers

Do you think in RL the local airfield operator will switch off the
lights when an ILS-equiped plane approaches, to make it more
'chalenging' for the pilot? I don't think so. Every aid is welcome.

Put a hood on like they do in RL. That way you won't see it unless you
cheat. Or you can oversize your panel to not see the ground.
Have fun,
Gary

I think you have misunderstood.....................

There are red BOXES in the sky, I dont think they actually exist in real
life, to be switched on or off.

Unless you know something I don't....................................

That wouldn't "simulate" real-world flying ... there's a little thing
called "decision height." If you don't acquire the runway visually, even
if you're on instruments, at "decision height" (which is generally 200 -
300' AGL), you initiate a go-around. Do that 2 or 3 times, and it's
time to initiate something called "divert" because you aren't going to
make it to THAT particular runway safely and within FAA rules.
