ATC Frequency Change Question Not logged in -   Reply

What criteria does FSX use for the ATC to tell you to change
frequencies? For example, I'm at flying at FL400 from KJFK to KLAX and
I'm being asked to change frequencies rather frequently. From the time
I've flown three-quarters across PA and a little into Ohio I've had to
change frequencies more than a dozen times, all for different
frequencies for Cleveland Center. It gets a tad annoying after a while.

I once asked a RL pilot and he told me that because of the enormous amount
of planes in the air and the few ATC controllers that air space is cut up
into a pie like configuration. Each time you pass from one piece to another
you are transferred to there control. He also mentioned each controller
handles a specific number of planes.

produced this interesting bit of text:

Ah, so the closer you get to the center of the pie, the faster you cross
the pie lines and so you change frequencies more often. Thanks!

English? Who needs that? I'm never going to England!
