A Word of Caution Which May Save You Some Aggravation Not logged in -   Reply

I have purchased some very nice software from Just Flight. I used it
in FS9 and it worked just great. Two of these programs are: Airbus
Collection, and Airbus A340/500/600.

Just Flight touts this software to run well in FS9 which it does, and
FSX which it doesn't, even with the FSX patches they provide. Their
support staff, although cooperative, offer little remedies for the
bugs which are apparent in their performance using FSX.

So, if you're considering purchasing either of these programs from
JustFlight.com and using them with FSX, be prepared for some
problems.*

*There is a possibility my computer may be faulty, but I have tried
just about everything I know to make these programs run correctly on
FSX to no avail.

I have Airbus A340/500/600, which I use in FSX. I even reviewed it for
FlightSimulatorXWorld.com. most positively.
I have to say that it works fine for me and that I have never experienced
ANY of these so-called problems with FSX. It has just been a great upgrade
from FS9 which needs more powerful hardware. Because, fortunately, I can
afford to get the right hardware, I am very pleased with it.

Of course, I still fly with FS9 because it runs at around 70 FPS on my new
system, and because I love the VOZ scenery for Australia which has not been
produced for FSX yet. But for my money there is nothing wrong with FSX, it's
a great sim!

Thanks, Quilly. Now, I can't seem to get the PFD's to display
information in my A340 while using FSX. The centre one displays, but
the two in front of me don't. I've tried turning the brightness knobs
near the radio stack....one works, and the one controlling the PFD's
doesn't. They work fine in FS9. Any ideas?

Oh yes, I am not criticizing FSX in the original post....I am just
mentioning that the programs sold by Just Flight with FSX patches
don't work properly for me in FSX.

Isn't it amazing that every 'puter is different. Here we go again with
'which car is the best'?

Airbus Collection 1 or 2? Airbus 1 is no longer supported (gee, I hope
not) and 2 was just released.

I don't think I would base my purchase solely on your input, although
it is insiteful.

I have installed both Version 1 and 2 on FSX, but I am using Vista, if
that matters.

But then, I am the black sheep that no one wants to talk too anyway?

If I paid for every product I have (and seldom use), and had to fight
for support for every product I bought, and was treated like you, I
would be more than pissed! Try before you buy! That is the key word
and hate me or not, that is my stance! Oh!!! This is a whole other
subject! As someone posted earlier, there is a whole subject here with
developers and programmers that want (need) to produce something and
worry about the fixes later!

I don't have the pleasure of being a publisher that gets to try a
piece of software for a week then report on it. Let's be reasonable.
The ones that test the product are the purchasers that are stuck with
it for ever!

I do admit that I have down loaded (and uploaded) software from the
groups. THERE! I said it! I have also purchased software (and have the
Visa bills to prove it) that I feel is worth having. Marketing is an
amazing 'must have' situation and I hate that. But how do I know if
it's really what I want/need?

To date, I have purchased any software I have used more than twice and
does what I require. This is not limited to just Flight Sim, but video
editing, compression stuff, audio manipulating, registry tools, anti
virus etc. etc.

Tired of being to doop and hearing all the developes/software gooks
crying the blues.

Hmmm! I think I heard this in the mp3 downloads too. Yea, right, pay
$20 for one song. Sorry, not my style, not the rest of the world at
this point in time!

Something I must have/need?>>Free download (as a trial) then I'll
choose! I don't care if 'TRIAL' is plastered across the screen, I
haven't spent my money on a lost cause and wasted support!

Sorry for the rant, but I had to do it. Gee, maybe I should write a
column in a rag?

BTW: One of my favorites(that I bought and have a legit serialf for)
is FS Passengers! A lot of fun and always a treat!

Don't apologize. It was a well-written and inciteful rant....and
maybe you should write a column.

I, too, use FSPassengers...one of the most interesting and well-
written programs I have ever purchased. I'm sorry I can't use it in
FSX.

I dunno...it could be that some of the problems I'm having with the
A340/500/600 program stems from the fact I also purchased Airbus
Volume 1 and installed it on FSX. It might be affecting the A340
program and messing up my gauges. Although it hurts me to do it, I
just might uninstall Airbus Vol. 1 from FSX and see if it makes any
difference. Screwing around with software because it might be
incompatible with other software from the same merchant really pisses
me off, especially when my complaints go unanswered. My money is just
as hard-earned as theirs and I expect value. When I don't get it, I
make it known to anyone who will listen and hope they don't suffer the
same sting as I did. I suppose that's how I get even.

I have to say that the prices some of these 3rd party companies are charging
these days does seem to be getting outrageous, more in some cases than the
supporting flight sim and for very meagre product in a lot of cases. It's
no wonder they get pirated imho. Not that I support or advocate piracy in
any way of course. Shall not name the greedy companies, I think we know who
they are. I can foresee that they will eventually kill the golden goose with
their greed.

I should add that MS have shown a reasoned way forward, still supporting a
product that is now over 1 year old (FSX) and releasing an update
(Acceleration) at a reasonable price, considering it contains 3 more
aircraft and a host of missions. That is not greed.
I don't have Accel so cannot comment on how good it actually is and have
given up on FSX as I found it no fun at all jerking across my screen, but I
do appreciate MS's continued support.
..... thinks and that's not a tongue in cheek statement.

Hi SORSRR,

"......But then, I am the black sheep that no one wants to talk too
anyway?".

Errr, HUH???

What the hell are you talking about, mate???

Your posts, and other stuff, are fantastic!!!

I do recall the thread you might have in your mind - totally disregard
it, mate - they were talking bullshit, compared to what you post, IMHO.

Well Quilly I am disappointed that you are reduced to using the word
gobsmacked. Base vernacular in the extreme. If I didn't know better I

On another tack entirely, I was just thinking this morning what a tremendous
asset this internet thingy is. As a young teacher thirty years ago, I wd
never have imagined that I would be getting up every morning to read what my
many friends all over the world would be saying. Then to be able to add the
sheer luxury of correcting their spelling...it's too much...

You, Quilly!! Smile)

Hey, after weeks of going cross-eyed checking out all the "info'", I
finally bought most of the bits today for my new PC system.

I'll start the building tomorrow - yeehhaawww, mate!!!!

It's an absolute corker of a system - 4GB of DDR3 memory, latest X38
motherboard chipset, blah, blah, blah......, and the whole thing was only ~
$AUS3,000.

Hi Quilly,

This is not the way I would have preferred to handle things, but, since
you asked the question I have to answer.

No, after some financial advice from my older sister's Financial
Advisors, no, I'm going to put things off for one financial year, so that I
maximise returns on my capital, and then pay for the trip out of the
interest earnings......

I bought that and used it for a while and then stopped using it. I found
the repetitive stuff contained in it irritating after a while.

Hi Quilly,

Well, I'll tell you, mate, ~ half the cost of this new system was the 4
GB of DDR 3 Corsair RAM - $AUS1,398 to be exact.

All the rest can be had for a pretty small cost, in my opinion,
PARTICULARLY the Antec Nine Hundred case......

The "rest" includes two SATA II 500 GB hard drives, 16 MB Cache, a
Thermaltake Toughpower 1,200 Watt PSU, a couple of SATA times 20 DVD
Re-writable drives, a couple of hard drive removable "caddies"......

Check out the case, mate (including the optional $AUS35 120mm side
fan) - you can transfer all you current stuff into it, and be a lot better
off......!!

John Ward

Sounds sweet, I would be particularly interested, in your thoughts on that
new X38 chipset mb - what brand?
I have a new Asus P5E X38 out for my delivery today, however now that this
680i is back up and running I may hold off on installing it, and do a
processor upgrade at the same time after first of year. IF this dang current
mb behaves that long.

Btw, from what I have read so far on DDR3, the latencies on that ram are
fairly high to get it to run stable... don't know if that means anything to
ya , thought I would mention it.
As time goes on, they should be able to tighten the latencies and cost come
down.

Hi Don,

Gigabyte motherboard, mate. There were two other brands, only, that had
the X38 implemented. Obviously, this mobo quite simply bypasses all the 680i
stuff - who needs it!!

I don't have any thoughts yet, as I'm only starting to, very carefully,
"build" the system tomorrow. Smile)

Nah, means nothing to me, mate, but I'm sure the Thermaltake Toughpower
1,200 PSU can tame it all. Check out its "specs". Otherwise, the RAM is
under Warranty, so if it doesn't work/function, I'll just take it back, for
a refund, mate.

I'm interested, sort of, in overclocking, but have never done so, and
nobody has ever managed to explain it all in plain, simple, step-by-step
English, so I don't intend to start just at this moment.... Smile)

Yeah, Asus being one of them, and that is what I have being delivered today.
Will probably hold off a bit though before installing, will be interested in
your progress as you go along.

The latency on the ram, simply means it won't be quite as fast as it could
be, but I doubt you'd probably notice.

If you ever want to get into overclocking, give me a holler I can probably
help you with that...

Best of luck,
