Alt newsgroup question Not logged in -   Reply

Hi,

I recently subscribed to alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim via free server.
It's a very lively group and gets very busy. My question is how do I
post a question to the group. My posting gets rejected for some reason
even when I tried different server.

It may be difficult for someone to assist you without more details about
the contents of the error message or pop-up you receive when your
article is being rejected. There is a possibility you need to set the
outgoing mail server (SMTP Standard Mail Transfer Protocol) for the
particular service you are using for your news reader account. There
should be some way of acquiring the necessary server name from the
organization running the news server.

It is quite common that free servers don't accept posting - try and visit:

http://www.newsparrot.com

and see if the server is listed, if it is you should see the details. If it
is a no-posting server you need to buy into the connection from somewhere.

Hi,

The server I am using now is freenews.netfront.net and appears to accept
posting according to Newsparrot. I am not sure what info I need to find
now or where to get it from. Any further help would be appreciated.

I see in my reader that for THIS group I am able post with the news
account set for my ISP's SMTP server, despite the news server being set
for msnews.microsoft.com. Your being able to use similar settings may be
dependent on your ISP's policies.

News server Information for netfront.net appears to be available at:
http://netfront.net/members/engmembers.htm

Although some text on the page is in what appears to be an East Asian
font. In the right column there is a "Contact us" link (
http://netfront.net/contact/engcontact.htm ). There appears to be a web
based server as well.

And there is also Google's web based "groups":
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim
