Approach and Landing... Not logged in -   Reply

Hi there, i'm new here~!! Tongue

I've got a question... when i try to land using a jet liner... how come the purple runway doesn't appear on the VOR (i dun think that's what its called)...

I hope u guys get what i mean... i use auto pilot... and when i do an approach... i press the 'approach' button... that's all i know about navigating... Frown

hope u guys can tell me why that runway (or rectangle) doesn't appear...

thanks~!!

p.s. the next thing i'm gonna ask about will be flying the chopper... Wink

The purple runway you are refering to is the vertical needle in the HSI when in VOR mode or in the ADI when doing an ILS.

Put it this way.. you will only this the purple needle when:

YOu have a VOR frequency tuned and your are within range and the radial your are flying matches that of the HSI, so the purple needle will indicate you are heading directly to the VOR or if you have tuned an ILS frecuency then it means you are lined with the runway (this only happens in the ADI gauge or artificial horizon) and an ILS needs to be tuned.

If what I've explained does not make sense to you then tell us and I;m sure someone else will explain it much better than what I just did.

Every major airport has 1 or more ILS capable runways (there is a frequency you need to tune in VOR1 for the specific runway you plan to land with ILS)

Tell me what airport, I'll look up the freq for you. I think you can do it yourself too. There's a very good site with frequencies and all that called www.fscharts.com try it out.

When? 15 to 20nm off the airport but it will of course depend on ATC controllers and what runway they assign you. How to tune it?

First locate the radio stack screen. Look for the box with the NAV1 caption. It should be a frequency already.. something like 119.25 just change it to the frequency of the ILS of the kuala lumpur airport. To change it you can click with the mouse the digits and move the mouse wheel to change them or simply press the N key in your keyboard and then + and - to change every digit position. For example pressing N one time will allow you to change the first digit. after you finish press N two times and it will let you change the second digit using the + and - keys.

k, right now i'm in this situation...

i'm landing at luqa airport... from the europe pilot flights...

so they tell me to tune in to 118.9, and said runway ILS...

but when i try to tune in to 118.9 at NAV1... when it reaches 117.9 it will jump to 108.9.

oh, if i manage to tune in to the correct signal, the purple runway indicator will appear by itself?

here's the frequencies for Kuala Lumpur Intl.

Runway - Frequency

14L - 108.50
14R - 110.70
32R - 109.10
32L - 111.90

Don't know where you got that 118.90

Hmm.. interesting question, don't know... I use fscharts.com online.

Look, I'm sure you'll find this really useful. First download a tool from the library called the Simradar Pilot Network SPN. Then, in the bookmarks section of it add the site called www.fscharts.com. Create an account at fscharts.com and you'll access runway frequencies right from your simulator.

yep i'm using FS charts for my next flight Wink

so that means the moment they confirm the runway, i'll check FS charts for the frequency?

Oh...i loaded a saved flight... and when i input the frequency, i see the indicator... but my plane makes a right turn and is flying AWAY from the runway... does the navigation frequency help you pilot the plane into the runway path?

All ILS frequencies go with a runway.. and runway rumbers represent radials (heading). So, if you tune the ILS frequency for Runway 18 then you known that going +-180 degrees and having the needle in the middle will get you in a straight landing (well, sort of). However, the EXACT heading is published in navigation charts.

Picture the the ILS as a beam of light pointing towards the plane trying to land in the runway. The purple line represents the cue you need to follow in order to make sure the beam of light is all over you.

Try landing at EGCC Manchester on runway 24R, the ILS is 109.50MHz, the VOR freq is 113.55MHz...try it out...oh, and the ADF is 428.

Cheers!!

Automatic Direction Finder or something like that. Don't remember.

It simply points an arrow to the station you dial in the ADF. Not radial based.

I think for ILS it will not do anything, but if you have a VOR tuned in, then the course heading is used to help you reach the particular tuned VOR via the dialed course. Picture the VOR as multiple beams of light in every direction. When you tune a VOR and dial a course, then the purple needle will simply picture you (the middle of the instrument) in relation to the needle in order to reach that particular radial. Once Heading equals the course you dialed and the needle is in the middle then it means you are heading directly to the VOR via the dialed course.

Never tried it.. what do you exactly mean by doesn't seem to navigate or go along its course? you mean while hand flying the plane or when following a VOR? be a little more specific so we can help

Re: Approach and Landing... [In reply to jaltuve] Not logged in -   Reply

okay, when i'm using the normal 747... i will press NAV button once i'm in the frequency... then the plane will automatically go along the course of the runway.

Whereas the 747 i use in the MelJet Mega Pack, when i click the NAV button... it will turn a little bit here and there but never down the runway...

Is it a config problem in the aircraft.cfg file?
