But will it help my frame rate? Not logged in -   Reply

Hey ! Remember me?
Got a question for y'all.
Got a big new 250G hard drive that`ll be used for day to day stuff and ye ole 160 Gigger will be dedicated to FS and Adobe Premier only. Is there an easy way to select which OS on either HD to boot from? Right now before each boot, I change the boot order in the BIOS depending on which programs I`ll be running.
Oh and I'm no longer living in KATL....moved back to CYUL and will try and go see the A380 that`s coming here this aft. Would be curious to see how it compares if parked next to B747-400.

So are you saying you have a OS on each hard drive? Normally when you
have a dual boot configuration...say XP and Linux you will get
prompted to log into on of them. This is done via a boot loader. Many
bootloaders (like GRUB, LILO, and NTLDR) can be configured to give the
user multiple booting choices. These choices can include different
operating systems (for dual or multi-booting from different partitions
or drives). If you dont choose it logs into the on on the top of the
list.
Do you have two hard drives and XP on both and if so why? I dont think
there would be any advantage to having it like that C:\Program Files
is where all your programs run from I assume on both drives.
Personally I would just use one OS and have the slower one used as
storage and backups. Have the faster one used for running your
applications.

Cheers,
Chris

This is the one I use to boot either from XP or Vista at startup. It's
free.

Yes Dude, one OS on each. The thought is to keep a virgin hard drive with only two power hungry software packages running after a boot. When I "activate" the FS boot on the smaller drive, only the essential drivers and pertinent services load. Previously, my smaller drive had everything on it (software) and the second, larger one was used as a repository for all of my files. I found that it would take forever to boot and both Premier and FS9 suffered from all the crap you accumulate over the years. Now, my surfing, photo editing and other crap goes on the big 250G, keeping the smaller one "uncontaminated" and un-cluttered, free to be used for flying and NLE-ing. Sort of like a dedicated `puter. So far (after less than a week) all seems ok, but is just a pain in the ass to have to keep reconfiguring the BIOS to swap the boot order of the HD`s. Hence, my question....
And yes, the A380 is huge.

While you're at it, move the "Page file" to the other drive (both installs),
that will improve on performance.

What you should have done was, to have windows, drivers, and programes on
the fast drive, and files/documents/"games" on the other, then the puter
would take advantage of using both drives at the same time, thus speeding
things up, a lot.
