Can't add aircraft!!! Not logged in -   Reply

Geez, all I want is to add a Dash 8 to the choices. Have tried 3 times with
different downloads now and none of them seem to show yet do same with
Galaxy-C5 no problem.

Latest attempt was the "Dreamwings Dash 8 -Q400 Porter" package which
instructs one to just unarchive using folder(s) and then copy that folder
over into the Aircraft folder. Says nothing about the imbedded guages.zip
file also get extracted. Copied folder into AirCraft folder and nada.
Extract Guages.zip and copy it over into gauges folder and still nada.

Anyone have any insight into what's wrong?

There has been a new posting on the vPorter site. I haven't tried it
yet
but it might solve the problem

The original Porter download wouldn't work for me either, but the new
one you suggested did.

Even if the install is flawed (like your gauges issue), if you have a
correctly structured, unzipped aircraft folder and drop it into the
Aircraft folder, it should show the aircraft in the select aircraft window.

That leaves two options. The first is that the structure of the Dash 8
-Q400 files or the folder is bad. That would mean it wouldn't work on
anyone's computer. That could include any zipped files that haven't been
extracted, but I've never seen anyone zip files inside of an aircraft's
folder.

Option two, is simple... the aircraft is in the select aircraft window but
not under a name you recognize. Often times developers will list their
name as the manufacturer like "Dreamwings" instead of "DeHavilland". In
that case select "All" in the select aircraft window to find hidden
aircraft.

And that is SO anoying! :o/

Had a war installing an A320 some time ago, and gave up, until I found it
listed just above the Wright Flyer. Now I have learned to install new
models, using their correct model name :o)

If it's just a gauge problem, look at the FS9/Gauges folder and see if
there is another folder below that named Gauges. If there is, copy the
contents and paste into the main Gauges folder. You can the delete the
empty subfolder. You may want to check here:

Downloaded the new package. Aircraft now shows under All catagory and Yes to
another poster, that is annoying.

Not sure if this is a problem or expected. I normally fly the LDS 767 sim
from it's full real life virtual cockpit. This Dash 8 (as well as a G-C5 I
dl'd) show nothing but "air" as if cockpit is fully transparent. Is that
expected. I have copied the included Guages folder's file contents over into
the FS's Gauges folder and have even gone thru the panel.cfg file insuring
all ref's to guages etc.exist so at a loss what to check or if it's
pointless.

First up, the ReadMe file doesn't say that. Here is what it says:

"Go to your Filght Simulator 9\Aircraft folder (usually ...\Program
Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft and create a new
folder called: Dreamwings Dash8 -Q400 Porter. ( Don't
miss the dash (-) before the 'Q').

Unzip the contents of this file directly to the above folder.

Now unzip the Gauges file found there to a temporary folder. Go there
and copy all the files in the Gauges folder and paste them to your
...\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Gauges folder.
Overwrite if prompted."

I just downloaded it and followed the instructions, and the craft
shows up under Bombardier/Dreamwings and works fine.

I think the panel looks a little hoakey and you can get a 'cleaner'
one here http://www.portervirtual.com/download/dash8v3.zip but it's
11mb. Open the Readme file before extracting by double clicking on the
ReadMe while viewing the contents in WinZip.

Also, there is a better sound file here
http://www.portervirtual.com/download/newsound.zip 10mb, but worth it.
Open the Readme file before extracting.

BTW: If you have the great PSS Dash 8 installed, the panel from that
craft works awesome with this (so does the sound), and gives you the
FMS fully functional for route planning. Just copy the PSS Dash 8
panel folder over to the Dreamwings folder.

Cheers!
