Seems like more and more lately, in FSX, ATC is screwing me up.

What is happening:

Create a flight plan, IFR, high altitude airways.

Take off, first atc directs me to turn to heading so and so, proceed on
course.

Then, atc tells me, turn to heading so and so ( not proceed on course ).

I turn, then atc never directs me back to the heading, to put me on my
course. It just leaves me out there, heading in a direction no where near
where I am flying to.
Then, if I turn to try and get back to my couse, atc will come on and say "
please expedite your turn to heading so and so, the heading that is no where
near where I am flying".

This morning, I create a flight plan from LA to Seattle, and at the moment I
am flying directly out over the pacific headed who knows where.

This used to happen, very rarely to me, now it seems to be more and more. I
wonder if something in Acceleration, or SP2, has contributed more to this
issue?

Yeah... it's the same AI ATC engine from FS9... I guess they thought it
was "good enough". [Pet peeve, biting my tongue.]

I should have taken a screenshot of the flight path of a flight where they
turned me back and forth a dozen times... it looked like modern art.

FS9 has a bug that causes ATC to direct you to the Twilight Zone if your first
fix is within a certain distance of your take-off point. Maybe the same bug
exists in FSX.

Interesting, that may very well be it.
I will have to start noticing the distance of the first fix when this
happens.

I don't think it was very far.

I've had this happen in FS9 when the first fix is, say, a VOR located at the
departure airport. The distance to the first fix is thus only a mile or so,
and ATC gets confused in this case.

Of course, if you want much better ATC, you can go with VATSIM. Real human
controllers don't have this bug.

I just loaded up the saved flight plan, and took a look.

The first intersection, was from KLAX to LAX ( VOR), distance of 1.2

I bet your right.

I just edited the saved flight plan, deleting that first intersection, and
took off again.
All is well now, thanks, now I will know what to look out for.

Don, if you want a much better ATC for FS you need Radar Contact which has
been upgraded to work in FSX. There is, of course, VATSIM but a lot of
people don't necessarily want to interact with real controllers which I
fully understand as I wouldn't either. So Radar Contact is an excellent
compromise. I've been using it with FS9 for almost two years now and I
wouldn't fly IFR without it. Find out more here http://www.jdtllc.com/ but
bear in mind that improvements have been made since the free downloadable
manual was prepared. You could also vist the Radar Contact forum at
www.avsim.com to see what other users think.

I have absolutely no connection with the developers of this add-on, I'm just
a happy user who knows that if most simmers who are dissatisfied with the
built-in ATC had it they would not regret it. It has some short comings,
mainly there is no ground control of AI aircraft so you have to watch where
you're taxying and this is being addressed to some extent for the
forthcoming (1 year+) version 5.
