FS2004: Instructor's voice garbled Not logged in -   Reply

I have a problem with MS Flight Simulator 2004.

Most of the time, in the flying lessons, the instructor Ron Machado's voice just isn't synchronised right. Sometimes, he talks about 10X too fast, as in a fast-forward. This is totally incomprehensible. Most of the times, he talks very slow is a low out of tune voice. This is unpleasant but comprehensible. Sometimes, pressing ESC twice to go to the menu and back to the game solves the problem.

The other sounds such as engine noise seem fine. (I'm new to the game so I'm not 100% sure, but they sound all right)

I tried the suggestion on the MS site to disable hardware acceleration with the dxdiag utility, but that only made things worse. The instructors voice is completely uncomprehensible on this setting.

I use the onboard sound card on my AOpen MK77MII. In the Device Manger, I see VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM).

I've played dozens of other games on the same PC, never had any sound problems. So I guess they're FS related.

Try changing sound quality settings inside the flight simulator menu. Experiment with Low Medium High

Problem solved by installing a Soundblaster Audigy II FS sound card.

The onboard VIA AC'97 Audio of my motherboard appears to have caused the problem.

BTW, when was the last time that you updated your chipsit drivers? This may have been the cause of your onboard sound card. go to google and type
hyperion 4 in 1 drivers
download the latest version and install..HTH

Hey, I have the exact same problem. The voices (including the ATC) get slower when I switch between views. All of the other sound effects stay the same. I am also using a VIA chipset for sound and am using the most recent vinyl drivers. I don't have sound a problem in any other software. Is buying a dedicated soundcard the only solution to this problem? :( All the drivers are up to date, including the VIA 4-in-1 drivers.

I've also looked for updated drivers and other solutions, nothing helped. I never had sound problems in other applications either.

In the end, I had to buy the dedicated soundcard, which solved the problem instantly

I fixed the problem! I went to Realtek's website and downloaded/installed their drivers instead of the ones offered by VIA and the voice problem went away! Cool
