FSX: Acceleration Install Issue Not logged in -   Reply

I have a problem with FSX: Acceleration add-on.

I have WinXP SP2, FSX deluxe with SP1 installed and operating correctly.
When I install the add-on pack it never asks me for a key during
installation. When I go to run FSX it will pop up with an error box that
says, "Flight Simulator was unable to load some files and will now exit.
Please repair or reinstall to correct this issue." See event below.

There is no other message. It just will not go any farther. Ironically,
just uninstalling Acceleration will allow FSX to run normally. Here is what
I have done already after talking to tech support for far too long, and
spending way too much time on it:

Tried repairing. No luck. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No luck.
Tried uninstalling both Acceleration AND FSX and reinstalling. No luck.

Uninstalled Acceleration and FSX. Tried creating an alternate admin account
and Reinstalled Both. No luck. FSX always works fine but Acceleration
always bites the big one. Tried the registry fix, but never got a prompt for
a new key. Same result: No luck. The very first time I installed it it got
one lowly error in the msinstaller application event viewer saying that the
configuration failed, but the saying when it exited that it succeeded. See
events below. It has never said anything about any failures on any
subsequent install since. And yes, I have been messing with it for over a
month.

I'm frankly so sick and tired of messing around with this, just because MS
can't seem to program an activation method that doesn't frustrate customers,
that I want to jam the disc down someone's throat. Of course my local store
will not take it back once opened. Tech support gave me the returns dept
number, but I really don't want to jump through more hoops, especially if
it's anything like the horror stories I've heard about dealing with WGA.

Anyone have any ideas that might help before I go burn this add-on disc in a
ritual of self cleansing? Wink

Do you have a restore point prior to the *first* Acceleration install? Looks
like the installer screwed the pooch and left some bits in the registry.
Then when you try to uninstall or reinstall, they're still there and things
go south.

A restore point to get a clean registry might help. Or you can try some of
the various registry cleaners to see if they pick up anything.

Sorry but that's the best I have - hope it helps.

RE: FSX: Acceleration Install Issue [In reply to FrostBitten] Not logged in -   Reply

Hello

I don't have the Acceleration, but I have had the same problem using SP1 and
SP2. My solution was to uncompress all dll and exe files (my Flight Simulator
X installation folder was compressed using the built-in compression
functionality in XP).

Good luck

Try to disable any firewall or security app. who has BOEP protection.

Then, reinstall Acceleration, and enable firewall.

Best Regards.
