FSX Acceleration Will Not Install HELP Not logged in -   Reply

Windows XP SP2
Microsoft FSX Installed with SP1 (legit registered program)
Bought Accleration today. On install it says I cannot install it becasue I
don't have FSX installed on the computer.

I do have FSX installed in the default folder on the C: drive under
programs/microsoft games.

I can play FSX at any time without issues. Why won't Accelration Reconginze
FSX?

How do I force an install!

The odd thing is that I think trying to install Acceleration corrupted my FSX.

Even though it supposedly did not install, I now have big problems with FSX.

I bought FSX the day it arrived on the shelf and installed it. In all that
time, I have not had an issue with it (other than slow) on my computer. Same
with SP1.

This morning I tried to boot the computer. Check disk came up before Windows
and said I had corrupted files and it went about deleting the "orphan"
pieces. When I tried to start FSX, the main screen came up, but on loading
the terrain files, it froze at 6%. After several minutes, I escaped out to
the main screen. If i Fly Now, I only get a black screen.

A two year old computer with a one year old program running many times and
no issues. Now the morning after a failed attempt and installing
Acceleration, I get Corruption.

Most likely I will have to reinstall everything from scratch unless I can
repair it. How do you repair FSX?

Is this the tip of the ice burg of a poorly tested product?

Wish I knew.

I am staying away from that acceleration thing. Plenty install issues
amongst other problems being reported all over

I don't even know if I will try SP2 when it is released. DX10 also seems to
be problematic

Very coincidental that the only time this has happened since I assembled the
computer two years ago was right after the failed attempt at installing
acceleration and that the orphaned files were from FSX.

I'll watch it, but I bet it doesn't happen again as long as I throw
Accleration away.

Now there's some new information.... you didn't say that the ONLY orphaned
files were FSX. Now I'd say there's a noob in the midst. Get some
experienced help, young man, because you are just knowledgeable enough to be
dangerous.

Repair of FSX did not work for installing Acceleration, but FSX worked by
itself.

Fresh install of FSX went well. Accleration installed fine after that. FS
Global X 2008 Terrain installed after that with no issues.

It is all playing together well.

Two more add ins to go.

SoCal X Mega Scenery and The land class package if I can find the downloaded
file.

Could it be one of these that caused Acceleration not to recongize the FSX?

For what it's worth ...... Installed acceleration and no problems BUT I used
a method that may just help others. Have FSX + sp1. First uninstalled addon
72-500. (no big loss in that it cost an arm and a leg in frame rates), One
other ac addon uninstalled. Used registry cleaner to clean up. Restarted the
computer, installed acceleration with no problems. Chose default FS commands,
finished install. Restarted computer, (for no other reason than it seemed a
good idea Smile. Everything working as it should. Not saying it is the ultimate
method but it worked for me.
Fujitsu Seimens
3Ghz dual
X17500XTX ati card

Having the same problem, glad to see I'm not alone. Still looking for
solution, I'll post if found.
