Have spent two days with FSX

How a company with the resources of Microsoft can sell such a cheap
shoddy product is beyond belief

There is not one redeeming feature

Graphics are terrible

Controls are stupid

Flight models are unrealistic

User Interface is a joke

DO NOT BUY THIS RUBBISH

BUY X-PLANE or CONDOR INSTEAD

they are half the price and 10 times as good

www.x-plane.com
www.condorsoaring.com (gliders only)

Microsoft - if this is the best you can do you should start selling
knickers instead

I wouldn't say you are wrong, but it varies case by case. You can't
generalize as you did. Many of us have been using FSX for quite a
while, and although frustrated with it at times, have made it work to
our satisfaction by using patience and input gleaned from other
simmers, particularly on this newsgroup.

I know how you feel after spending two days being tormented by a
seemingly balky product, but I can assure you if you tell us about
your computer resources and the problems you are having, the members
of this group may be able to make FSX much better for you. It's
certainly worth a try.

Come on tell us what you are trying to run it with. FSX is not crap, but it
lies on the box about minimum requirements. With the right equipment many of
us have found it to be the best MSFS so far. the fact that you might have to
spend $3000 to run a $50 sim means it has been badly marketed not that it is
a bad sim.

Hi John Rivers,

Ohhhh, rats, just a tad too late, mate - I just spent $AUS 500
yesterday, buying Vista Ultimate 64-bit (and 32-bit), to go with my new PC.

Luckily, I use removable drive trays, so nothing lost at all.

Regards,

x-plane sucks, condor is a bird. fsx runs great. best sim to date, just badly marketed and produced. more aces fault than microsoft ?

Intellivibe guarantees you better Vibrations sitting in the cockpit / racecar ..
FS-GS guarantees you better Frame Rates for a lot less than a costly upgrade ..

I have to agree. Although I play FSX, I put it on the same podium as FS2000.
Basically a bit of a dog. Some nice ideas, but on the whole, thrown away on
the implementation. FS2002 and FS9 were much more stable and have
performance that would make FSX blush.

Condor is superb. I have never been into gliding until I bought it, but when
I did I found it so enjoyable (especially online), that I now love the the
simulated gliding experience.

X-Plane in its current form is also very good and has many advantages over
FSX. However, the one thing that lets X-Plane down badly is its lack of
aircraft systems modelling. Many simmers here like FSX because of the
systems modelling. You only have to look at some of the airliners (and even
some GA planes) to see what I mean.

X-Plane's framerate on my system is super-fluid. This in itself and the
better flight modelling make the feeling of flight much more imersive than
FSX's. The same would apply to Condor too - super high frame rates coupled
with first rate flight dynamics. When I go back to FSX after playing either
of these two it feels like its on rails and the graphics just don't seem as
fluid as they should be.

My biggest moan with FSX (apart from its poor performance) is the way that
all the runways are billiard smooth. I live in a hilly area and my local
airport looks terrible thanks to these huge cliffs that surround it. Here
are some screenies to show you what I mean:
http://www.astroccd.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/FSX-eghd.jpg

In addition, when one is on the runway it again, looks way too flat. Here
are screenies taken from Exeter Airport's runway 26. Note that in X-Plane
and even Elite V8, the runway slopes gently downhill. In FSX's version its
as flat as a billiard table and just like the Plymouth example above,
surrounded by unrealistic sheer cliffs. I find these cliffs very jarring
during final approach, it completely drops the immersion for me. Frown

Elite V8:

X-Plane 8.6
http://www.astroccd.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/X-Plane-egte-026.jpg (This one
should have been widescreen, but X-Plane's screen capture only takes the
centre part?!)

FSX:

For the moment I will keep playing FSX, simply because there isn't another
sim out there that has integrated traffic, ATC and great systems modelling
of the aircraft.

If X-Plane could crack the systems modelling aspect I think MS might start
being very afraid...

Regards
RobP

Sorry, too late, I already have FSX, bought it the week of it's release, and
have over 300+ hours on it, and am enjoying the hell out of it.

I particularly the geographical accuracy of FSX. Last summer I explored the
sea between Corfu and the Greek mainland before sailing there, and it was
superb and very helpful. Today, I am doing the same with the Sporades as we
intend to sail there next June - teriffic!

Independent application unlikely to be compatible with any add on
intended for any version of Microsoft's Flight Simulator. While it
apparently uses DirectX for some audio functions, X-Plane doesn't even
use the same 3D graphics engine. MSFS uses DirectX, while X-Plane uses
OpenGL.

http://www.x-plane.com/

Site offers a time limited demo with a limited scenery set. Paid version
comes on a DVD.

Another civil aviation simulation is the open source Flight Gear. This
one might require more time and effort getting the settings and scenery
loaded and functional. At one time Flight Gear was very much a work in
progress, and I don't know to what extend the desirable features are
functional.
