Flight Simulator X won't run on new computer.

Windows Vista Ultimate
Core2 Extreme QX6700 F-OC' Quad Core,
4GB Corsair Dominator OC' 1066MHz,
Dual 768MB Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX,
Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Extreme,
2 Samsung 21"ers and a 24" Wide.

It ran fine on the old Pentium 4, Pentium D, and
Quad core Q6600, Dual NVIDIA 8600 GTS running Windows XP, but won't run at all on a Vista.
I installed KB#933590 (for Vista and multiple monitors) "at least the software will start now".

This Microsoft product will still not run on this Microsoft operating system at all, even at the "lowest resolution" and all "minimal" graphical settings, one monitor and full SLI. (Very poor jerky picture) (fatal errors) (your computer has run out of available memory) (blue screen of death). Etc.

Even on the old Pentium 4 it ran fine on ultrahigh settings.

Installed and reinstalled many times, started with a brand-new computer fresh with no other software, all drivers have been updated, installed service pack one, no third-party software, all other programs work fine on the new computer.

After waiting a week for Microsoft technicians to call back, all they did was fiddle with some AA settings, quality sliders, and tried taking jets off from different airport gates. Then they gave up!
(What a shameful waste of time that was)

Does anyone have any ideas?
(This is a great product and we are looking forward to getting it working again).

Any chance you could tell me exactly what happens? You say that the
software doesn't run. Do you get a splash screen, or do you get
nothing when you try to start?

Oh! You say you get a jerky picture, so it is running.

Your running two cards in SLI?

Let me know.

Oh, and do youself a favour. Shrink the size of your jpeg's, gif's, or
bmp's on your web site. The internet doesn't need them that big and
the site will load a lot faster, or maybe it's just a bad server
delivering at 7.0 kb/s?

Must be my mistake. I did Google SORSRR just for fun, and the very first
response was nothing but posts of uploaded files to a flightsim warez group.
Someone else using your same name maybe.

Yeah, I'm aware of the slow load time of the main banner. I've tried a few
different options, and seem to get no better times. Might be the server.

First reset the speeds and don't overclock, does it help? What
motherboard is it? Does it detect the memory settings correctly?

I noticed a big improvement when I got nVidia's newest driver for Vista 64.
It jerks with sliders all the way, but works fine when I back it off
slightly unless the scene is rally complicated--much better than my older FS
on older hardware.

However, I still have an FSX problem when using a second monitor; when I
reset something that takes the flight scene away, like a new aircraft or
airport, after it reloads the flight scene "flashes"--goes from OK to blank
to all white and back for about a second each. The "fix" is to Alt-Enter
twice; this goes to a window, then back to a fullscreen. With a single
monitor this doesn't happen. Nobody has ever even suggested a fix. I'm at
the latest video driver, BIOS, running Vista Ultimate 64, 8800 GTS 320 MB.
No other program flashes like this, which may suggest a DirectX problem.

You need to upgrade that old computer, man I'd never try running FSX on such
a low-end machine Wink

It always did, regardless of the config itself (SLI or Crossfire) it
simply uses what is recognized by the OS. There are profiles for FS
and SLI mode in the NVIDIA drivers as far as I know
