What kind of flying experience will I have (I have FS9) with my system: P
2.4G; 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HD (50 GB free), Nvidia Geforce 6200 with 256 MB ? Is
it worth buying FSX or not? Thanks maven

IMHO you're right on the edge. There are people with systems like yours that
are having a great time with FSX. It depends on what you expect. You will
NOT be able to run with sliders maxed or even close to it. However there are
differences. For example, in FS9, the Dense Autogen setting is equal to the
Sparse setting in FSX.

A full install will take about 13G of disk space. The 6200 is a good card
but marginal.

All that said, I have seen people with systems like or less than yours have
a good experience.

I have also seen people with better system not have a good experience.

Just depends on your expectations.

HTH,

Vic

Not.

The only way to get the FSX frame rates up on that computer would be to
turn down everything until it looks worse than FS9.

I think I'm going to try that... turn things down all the way. I bet she
still looks better than FS9.

Increase your RAM to 2 gigs and get a better video card and you 'should' get
decent performance. It may require some tweaking however. If it does, the
folks at www.fs-gs.com can help

I've just uninstalled it from a similar system. FS9 is much better. Looks
great too with the right add ons.

On that machine, you will be happier staying with FS9. Still a LOT of
fun to be had there, and you'll enjoy flying instead of tweaking.

If comparing the stock install of FSX, to the stock install of FS9, your
exactly right.

You can run FSX. I would recommend you considering investing your
time and energy in tweaking your environment for FSX (starting out
with adding RAM considering the current cost).

Take a look at http://flightsim.apollo3.com/blog/apoblog.pl?type=f&article=41
for more details.
