FSX plus Accelerator Not logged in -   Reply

All,

I purchasd a copy of MS Flight Sim X plus the Accelerator add-on. This
program was just installed on:

Vista Ultimate 32-bit
3GHZ Pentium Dual Processor
ATI Radeon x1650pro 512meg (just purchased had a ATI Radeon X300)
2 gig RAM
60 gig HD free (7200 RPM)
Patched FSX with SP1
I have nothing running in the background outside of the basics.

What happens is the plane or cockpit is not always drawn. The first time I
play it seems to work. If I choose a different plane or chopper on the next
flight, either the plane is invisible and/or the cockpit. I have played
with the settings reducing the graphic/plane/traffic/weather/ec. details.

Anyone else experiencing this or similar problems with FSX?

Thanks!

Ben

Yes I did dated 12/2007 from ATI (AMD) site. Should I remove the
Accelerator? It appears a lot of folks have had issues with the add-on
since it was introduced. Also forgot to mention that the monitor is an Dell
19xx series LCD (new) and I connected the PC to the monitor using a DVi
cable. All other games are fine, just FSX seems to have a problem.

Any other ideas? Or should I just take the game back for a refund and get
X-Plane?

Don't do that just yet Ben. FSX is probably the most difficult program
I have ever tried to get running. I had loads of problems at the start,
but it is running right now just fine. I kept at it. Some problems went
away on their own (which always worries me that they will come back - on
their own) while others yielded to replacement video drivers,
re-installation and the addition of SP1. Now, there is also SP2 out
(or, if you prefer, Acceleration instead of SP2). Heck, even defragging
the doggone drive helped with the jitters.

I had the problem you describe (invisible plane - or a pure white plane
in chase view) one day while I was flying, i popped into chase view and
the plane was nicely rendered and now all of them stay that way all the
time. I am convinced that there is a small gremlin in the software that
just needs it's behind kicked a bit.

You might try upping the sliders dealing with renditions (even though
that may cause shuddering) and then backing off again the next time you
start the program. That helped me once.

Does anyone from Microsoft Games frequent these newsgroups? I would be
curious what their take is on all of these issues. I have the latest video
drivers, have SP2, the drive has been defrags, I have played with the
sliders. None of this makes sense or is truly acceptable. Don't you agree
or has everyone come to accept that nothing works as advertised from
Microsoft?

Sometimes the latest video drivers will NOT work. Have you tried going
back to the older set of drivers? Maybe, even, one older than that.

Have you run DXDiag? The report from this program might just give you a
clue as to what is happening.

Sorry, but I do not agree. Microsoft has done some clunkers to be sure
(MSDOS2.0 comes to mind) but, for the most part, they produce software
that has the usual amount of gremlins embedded in it; however, I think
it is tested more thoroughly than most companies. I get very irritated
with them at times to be honest, but eventually find out that MOST of
the problems were simply either operator error or driver/computer
issues. Other companies produce software which, in my estimation, is
much worse than Microsoft. I am not about to name them here though.

It is a video driver bug and will need a diferent driver to fix it.
Microsoft games will not fix driver issues.
Contact your video card manufac. and get newer driver from them. Also, let
their troubleshooting dept know about this issue.
