I had the same but also a black square on the place of the engines
but it disappears in a second.
It has to do with the prog language in which the sim is written, I think

Those black squares, that appear briefly when switching views, did not start
appearing for me, until after I installed Acceleration.

Maybe the difference is that I did'nt instal sp1 but directly sp1a...

Those black squares are lights, VASI and aircraft lights. I think it's
delays in switching to the "there's a light here" textures.

The large square is a symptom of a missing texture tile
that the effect needs.

Try putting this line in your fsx.CFG [SCENERY] section:

ShowMissingTextureAlert=1

That should tell you what texture is needed.Then you can
go from there. Set the value to "0" to disable the alert.

I've seen a couple of other posts by folks having this problem
pop up in FSX recently. Not sure what is causing the textures
to go missing...
