I'm experiencing a "night/day" issue with fsx. Invariably when I'm flying in
the morning, after sunrise, the setting reverts back to a night scene. I try
forcing the time and season parameter, but it doesnt help. Then at some point
in the day, I have a day setting. Any idea what's going on?
Thank you.

In the Dark

I am curious. Have you been able to resolve any of the issues you post about
and get replies from the group? You never seem to post back with any feed
back positive or negative. The transponder and Vatsim questions come to mind

Thanks, Bill............

I'm not quite sure why my responses and thank-you's are not showing up. My
apologies! I'll run a test now.

No problem and thanks for that.

With regard to your original question I have not seen that issue in my FSX
so am not able to help much. Hopefully someone else can

...more on my "night/day" issue. It seems that GMT & Local times are
consistently 4 hrs earlier than they should be..........can't figure this
out. Even tried complete pc shutdown.

Depending on where you live, the DST feature may not always work correctly.
Here in Copenhagen when we had the last changeover, my clock was 4hrs off!

Double-click the clock in your task-bar and check that you are in the
correct time-zone and that DST is set to change automatically. Then correct
the time if necessary.

After this, you should decide if you want to load/save your situations with
the system time or the actual time of the current flight. Also, make sure
you are flying in the correct hemisphere - it's now summer in the Antarctic!

I have no idea if this will solve your problem, but these are a few of the
minimum requirements to have things behaving as you'd expect. Most monitors
don't have enough power to fill the screen with complete White and/or Black,
you should check the site of the manufacturer for color-correction files
(*.ICM) and install the one that corresponds to your make and model. The may
not exist! If you have LCD display you may need some equipment to test and
calibrate the setup - this may be expensive!

For clarification, I didn't use to have any issue with this (provided I had
all those requirements checked) but with the latest globalized DST
corrections, things started behaving. I assume this is an OS issue - the
fact that FS doesn't have daylight adjusted correctly to the latitudes is
something else and became much better in FS9, but the seasons still does not
fall spot on. On a normal day in may daylight shifts to darkness in the
south of France in 15 minutes - in Copenhagen the same shift takes several
hours. In FS this shift seems to take around 15 minutes no matter the
season, and no matter where you are. I cannot say for FSX, but otherwise it
is clear that the globe's curvature and the Slant Angle of the light is
severely miscalculated in FS somewhere.

Do note, that the better your monitor, the lower the effect of this - an
expensive display does pay off in most games and certainly does in FS.

A simple test is to run FS in a window ( Alt+Enter ) and set it to load your
situations with the System Time and then load up a flight and checking the
time in FS, it should be the same on your system - if you then look out the
window and check the light conditions with physical reality, it should
theoretically look alike.

----------

In theory, there is no difference between 'theory' and 'practice' - in
practice there is!

Re: In the dark [In reply to "Tony Sperling"] Not logged in -   Reply

Thanks, Tony......it is rather frustrating when you need the daylight to
maneuver. Interestingly, what happens when loading fs, I first get a message
that it's loading terrain data. Very quickly, it flashes the aiport screen in
the correct daylight. Then it says it's loading terrain data again. It is
after that it shows incorrectly. Any idea why it's loading terrain data twice?
(maybe together we can resolve this!)

Thanks again...........

Tony,

I contacted Microsoft who has determined that the problem is the third-party
Fswinn and/or fscopilot causing the problem. Do you use those? What else can
I use if I wish to continue connecting to VATSIM? Thanks!
