Missing movie clips and sound effects in FS 2002 Not logged in -   Reply

My game-playing PC is two years old now; it is an AMD T-Bird 1.3 system with 512 MB's of RAM running Win98se on an nVidia FX 5200 Ultra adapter. I just got FS2002 and a new to me joystick, a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

Acrobat 5.1 and Media Player 9 were already installed, but FS2002 didn't find those. It wanted to install Acrobat 4 and MP 7.1, and I refused to let it. During the intro startup of the game, there were supposed to be some movie clips. Only the audio portion played. Where the video should've been, an MP logo looped a little dance.

I found no obvious movie clip files in the folder structure that FS2002 installed. When I read the lesson-connected sections of pdf files, instead of 5.1, FS2002 used Acrobat 4 anyway. Then when I played through the lessons, there was no sound other than the instructor. Like flying along in a sail plane, still on tow, but even quiter than that. Not even wind noise.

Is there a conflict between MP9 and FS2002? Or was there something I didn't do when upping the RAM from 256 MB's besides inserting the SIMM that has not created any obvious problem before now?

My problem with FS2002 was either totally unique, or interest in that older FS version has fallen way off. I got very little feedback and gave up on the version.

I got rid of all Acrobat Reader stuff, and FS2002, and Media Player also. I have FS2000 Pro now. It's got its own problems, but the movies do show up, and the sound effects do play, so I am ahead of FS2002 in those regards.

FS 2000 dates back to when hard drive storage was more expensive. The CD shuffle routine it follows is ridiculous these days. I need to put a lot more stuff on my hard drive to fix that, and get rid of the broken parking brake routine.

It has copy protection garbage on it that is broken and required a no-cd Exe to fix. It runs windowed in 640 by 480 out of the middle of my 17" screen's 1152 by 864 pixels, and causes an illegal operation error when trying to use the full screen.

Hi !

The very first thing to do is to make sure your computer is in a "top notch" state !

First, make sure you run the utilities that come with Win 98 SE such as Disk cleaner, scandisk, defrag, etc
which you will find in the Startup|Programs|Accessories|System tools.

Second, make your your Windows is fully updated by visiting the WindowsUpdate website of Microsoft.

Third, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and sound card.

Fourth, use Acrobat 5.0. Version 6.0 is bugged !

Try that and let me know.

By the way you better buy FS 2004 instead of going back to FS 2000 ! Your computer is powerfull enough !

The game system is probably number 6 or 7 in its location in the house. I had desktop computers before IBM invented the name "Personal Computer" or PC, but my first game machine was a C64 in 1984.

With a total of 35 years of computer experience, I have developed long-standing habits of maintenance, including up to date drivers for sound cards, video adapters, etc.

I suspect that FS2000 is overly sensitive to various PC processes that may be running in the background, and I have to close whatever is interfering with its attempts to use the entire screen. I'd like to find the web site where I saw a fix for the broken parking brake problem, for certain.
