Modding Tools for BAO Tower Not logged in -   Reply

Since it is quite apparent that MAI Tower is in the can (whichever can that might be), I've decided to set up some mod tools for the original Tower. Since I've already made an airport mod in the form of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (KPHX), I understand how the files work and therefore, should be able to make some easy to use tools that anyone can use to make their own addons. So far, I've found a way to use AFCAD to design the airports and get the plotting coordinates for the TWR file - the most time consuming part of it all.

I'm also planning several airports as a package with preset, real world flight plans and also, terminal outlines included on the ASDE. A fully modern aircraft file is also in the works with every variation of each type and new visual models as well.

The only limitations I see so far are in the audio and 3D visual areas. My mods will not have the 3D out the window display - simply because it's too much of a hassle to line everything up, at least right now. Also, until I'm convinced that I can satisfactorily mod all the voice files to my strict level of quality, I'm going to skip them as well.

Other than that, it should be fairly simple to build any airport for use with Tower. Website is setup and some data has been dumped up there: http://mysite.verizon.net/vzepecu6/tower2006/

Quick update - I just made the first mods. There are now 47 airlines and 97 aircraft in Tower 06. The airlines will grow and the aircraft only need their 2D models adjusted. Once that's done and I have all the base files set, the modding tutorial will begin. I hope to do KMHT as the test airport. It's simple enough to pop out quickly but also show how the process works.

Update: The total now is 100 Aircraft; 100 airlines

Again, the only limitations with my mod will be lack of audio for the airlines (Instead of, "American 228, with you 12 miles south" you will hear, "With you 12 miles south," though you will see everything on the flight strips and in the dialog box) and lack of the out the window view. If anyone can do a program wo easily mod that, have at it! :)

Anyway, I usually have my hands full with the two displays anyway. Here's the current list of aircraft. you'll notice I pretty much killed all the GA planes, as well as the transports. I'm considering an aircraft carrier mod, if I can get the fighters to work right. We'll have to see.

The first installment of airport design has been posted. It's a simple, single runway with parallel taxiway and 1 gate. Later, I'll add Holdshort points, highspeed turnoffs and more gates. After that, it's off to AFCAD for some serious design work!

http://mysite.verizon.net/...6/tower2006/id3.html

The first airport will be KMHT. Anyone interested in following along should go to http:www.Airnav.com and get the following printouts:

KMHT Airnav page

KMHT Airport Diagram

Procedures:

ILS RWY 35 (CAT 2 or 3)

ILS or LOC/DME RWY 17

RNAV (GPS) RWY 6

RNAV (GPS) RWY 24

Airspace Fixes:

PELAN

POPVE

CRTLA

KIMBR

ENINE

FITZY

WAVBO

ONGEE

I'll give a breakdown of how to do each part, then provide a download with the finished files once it's completed. All you need to do this is wordpad, AFCAD2 and some time to kill! :)

The basic tutorial is complete here: http://mysite.verizon.net/vzepecu6/tower2006/

In it, I show how to build a simple, one runway airport with a parallel taxiway, 1 turnoff and 1 gate. Also, I show how to modify two SIM files to demonstrate the workings of this little airport.

Enjoy! Smile
