Moved up to 747 - ground parking direction? Not logged in -   Reply

I have recently moved up, from the 737 to the 747 in FSX.

One thing I have found interesting, now oftentimes when landing at a major
airport, after landing and exiting the runway, I am directed to taxi to
general aviation parking, rather than to a gate. The only option I am given
often, after exiting the runway and contacting ground , is " taxi to
parking", there is no " taxi to gates" option to select.

Is this normal?

Well if it is normal for FSX to behave like that, it appears to be another
reason to fly FS2004. I've read so many threads of FSX downers that I'm
surprised that eBay isn't flooded with FSX copies at giveaway prices.

Good info to have, thanks.

If FSX is like FS9, there are probably a lot of "ramp" positions for heavy
aircraft at some airports, but no gates for heavies. I suppose the AI directs
you to whatever is available that is large enough to accommodate the aircraft.

There are some Afcad files for FSX that are starting to show up in the usual
libraries.
You can search out the Airports that you are flying to. If there are no
gates that are large enough for a 747 then you will be directed to a Cargo
Gate or just the General Parking.

What Airport are you flying to? Have you tried to land at an airport that
you know for a fact should have a gate large enough for a 747?

what has annoyed me on some add on scenery, I choose the gate on creating a
flight only to have a instant collision building aircraft or otherwise so I
reset flight and it reoccurs so it means exiting and restarting with a
different plan.

Which scenery?

Some scenery packs have an option to remove all static aircraft, or you can
eliminate static aircraft by renaming a few files.

mainly local, so you wouldn't be using them probably. (Wellington NZ is one)
One of the gates puts me in the car park!! Frown
With the latest version I've stopped hittting hidden buildings front of
terminal.
Maybe the excludes weren't working.

Yep but excellent work.. I don't like to knock the author in case the fault
was mine somehow.
I'd have to check the forums on it.

Don,

I looked for an updated Afcad for Wellington and found a couple for the
default and this:

--
New Zealand Wellington - for Deane Baunton's NZ scenery. This older (and by
new standards, fairly synthetic-looking) scenery works well in FS04, so I
made an AFCAD for it.

File Name:

Filename: wmkksaeznzwnlimllfpgwiii.zip
License: Freeware
Added: 1st October 2004
Downloads: 2211
Author: Matthew Ministry
Size: 91kb

There are six Afcad files in this one download and includes Afcad files for
a lot of famous and other great sceneries as well.. Maybe this Afcad can
cure your problems.
--
Have you also tried the ARNZ Freeware Site?? Go here:
http://www.flightsim.co.nz/ but it now looks like Jon has updated everything
for FSX. He did have a lot of things available for FS9 so they might still
be around. This site also includes Afcad files, Plane Textures (he calls
them skins) and Scenery Files.

If this isn't the scenery your looking for you can search out the authors
name and I'm sure something will turn up. BTW, the above search was on
Avsim.
