A bit off topic for me but I have to let all of you know about this, as
it's well worth your while.

I have just come back from a private sitting where I was privileged to
hear a new musical CD soon to be released by the Royal Scots Dragoon
Guards. You people simply HAVE to find a way to listen to this music.
I never would have believed the Bagpipes could produce such sound.
Just hearing the Guard's arrangement and presentation of "Amazing Grace"
in my opinion will be worth the price of the entire program.
This music is some of the finest I have ever heard in my life.

Dudley, just FYI, "Amazing Grace" was a chart topping single for the band in
1972. It was taken from an album entitled "Farewell To The Greys" which was
recorded to commemorate the merging of the 3rd Carabiniers and the Royal
Scots Greys to form the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, Scotland's only tank
regiment. The track on the album was played on radio by one of our DJs and
the station was inundated with requests for it so the single was released.

Yes, I know. I heard it back then as well. Apparently the Guards
included it on the new "Spirit of the Glen" CD since it was so popular
and has been identified with them so closely.

Hi Dudley,

The proudest, most emotional, moment of my life, so far, was when I saw
Dad presented with his O.B.E., by the Queen, at Buckingham Palace, back in
1985.

With that went my only overseas trip so far, but it was an absolute
corker, mate, since it involved an ~ 3-month trip, through Britain , mainly
Scotland.

Dad's Boss, and Dad ended up being the Southern Hemisphere boss for his
Scottish-based Co., originally Parsons-Peebles, based in Edinburgh, which he
got a Scholarship to, was Sir Duncan MacDonald, who I met many times as I
was growing up, mainly in Melbourne......

If you're onto it, you can do better, mate, IMHO, than learn more about
them (the Scottish), and all they have given the world............

I could dribble on, but, I WON'T - Scotch College, down in Melbourne,
has a pretty famous history, so far as Highland bands go, and many other
things, too............

Don't talk to me about the bagpipes, mate, or the Haggis, or many other
related things!!!!!!

BTW, just to put a little tribute to Dad - he Matriculated at Scotch
College, down in Melbourne, at a ridiculously early age, then got his
Mechanical Engineering Degree, then his Electrical Engineering Degree, and
then was part-way through his Medical Degree, when he was hospitalised, via
Rheumatic Fever, and met Mum, who was a nurse......

Then they had many adventures, some of which I've mentioned on this n/g.

Best regards,
John Ward

Well, he seems to be full of hot air. That's a start anyway Smile)

I have a friend who's really into classical music. He has described the
Bagpipes as blowing into a bag full of cats, pissing them off so that
they all holler like hell at the same time.
He listened to the Guard's arrangement of Amazing Grace and actually
teared up before the song was finished.
You just never know about music!

That's ok Iain. No sweat at all. I saw after I posted that the way I put

Another beautiful pipe piece is a solo from River Dance done on the
Uillean Bagpipe played by Davy Spillane. The piece is called Caoineadh
Cu Chulainn if you ever run across it; beautiful!

Hi Ibby,

Don't get me started on the bagpipes, mate - I know all about the
English/Scottish ones, the Irish ones, and even the Egyptian ones......

They are, at least to me, just so evocative.

Hi MikeW,

Please, don't treat the subject lightly, mate - the Pipes invoke too
much emotion, in too many people, including myself, for many reasons..

Don't feel at all obliged - it was just way too easy of Snake to ask
that of you, in the interest of humour.

Never ever underestimate the power of Bagpipes, the only sound they've so
far never made, is a bearable one, a bit like banjo's, just louder ;o)

I just love a challenge, and as this will be the first time I've used
bagpipe music in a vid, should be quite interesting.
