This is a long shot. I remember there was a short discussion on this NG
about a film (movie) set in the the future. It sounded great and I ordered
it on loan through my online DVD rental group. That was months ago, and it
clearly has dropped off my request list somehow. IIRC Dallas also placed it
on his DVD rental request. I can't remember the name of the film, and
Google hasn't helped.

Anyone remember this discussion (months ago)

Regards
Doug

Hi Quilly,

No that wasn't the one. My memory is hazy, but I think it was a film about
society gone mad, sometime in the future. (Actually in Aus, it is mad now!)

BTW Quilly, have you adopted "movie" or do you still stay with "film"?

Regards
Doug

PS My nieces call me a "dork". I haven't worked out what they mean so far.

Wasn't "The Island" was it?
That's about the world in the future, and a society of clones bred
purely as spare parts for the wealthy of the world. The clones are told
that the world has become contaminated, and they live in hope of
winning the lottery to go to the Island. The truth is that when they
'win the lottery', they are taken and killed/harvested for their host.

Hi CL/NG Leader,

Nope, not that one, but it sounds like its worthy of being added to my
Bigpond DVD rental list.

Thanks Chris

Children of Men? Set in a future where no children have been conceived for
ages (they make a big thing of it when 'The Youngest Person Alive' dies).

I use film, movie and video quite indiscriminately. I suppose nowadays what
I do myself is properly called making videos, but in the UK we still usually
talk about watching a film, or 'going to the pictures.'

Idiocracy

The smart people of the world are having fewer and fewer children. The
stupid people are breeding like crazy.

3 average people are frozen and thawed out 500 years later to find
themselves the smartest people on earth.

The premise is fantastic, the movie is silly but cute.

I liked the concept, but the idea fell flat by the end. One of those
where the preview is as good as the whole movie I think.

Mike Judge's earlier "Office Space" is one of my favourite films of all
time though. That's just such a profoundly accurate portrayal of
corporate life it's scary.
