OT Smarter than a 5th grader? Not logged in -   Reply

There are 7 girls on a bus

Each girl has 7 backpacks

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats

For every big cat there are 7 little cats

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

Post your answer.

(there is nothing "tricky", it's just math)

7 girls on a bus.

7 × 2 = 14 legs

# of Backpacks = 7 girls × 7 backpacks = 49

# Big Cats = 7 x # Backpacks

# Big Cats = 7 × 49 = 343 Big Cats

Big Cat Legs = 343 × 4 = 1,372 legs

# Little Cats = 7 × # Big Cats

# Little Cats = 7 × 343

# Little Cats = 2,401 Little Cats

Little Cat Legs = 2,401 × 4 = 9,604 Little Cat Legs

The Total is:
14 Legs + 1,372 legs + 9,604 legs

or

10,990 legs

Curious I must say. Whether the answer is right or wrong, both the
answers in the two preceding posts give an odd number. Somebody or some
cat must be missing a leg. Each must have either two or four legs and
multiples thereof give an even number.

I would say 14 as the other legs are not in the bus, strictly, they are in
the backpacks. But hey I've been wrong before...there is possibly a driver,
but he may not have got in yet...

I'm wondering how many consecutive years you'll get for that
effort.
