I live somewhat close to this area. Hoxton Park to be exact right near the
airport. The whole south western suburbs are a little risky to live in. At
least Hoxton Park is pretty quiet and it's own little community.
It's always risky to intervene in such matters as it will come back. If you
want to do something to them, slash their tyres at 1am when no ones looking
or something. But No one should ever confront such brainless dickheads.

I really wonder about what it's coming to also, CL.

That's just terrible. I'll pray for your friend and family.

Did he know these people or is it a random choice of victims?

The problem has always been with us but I suspect it has climbed and become
more violent now.

Hi CL.... I may have made it seem easier than it is here in Texas. The
fastest way for me to go to jail is to let someone know I have a concealed
weapon and to show it to them. You can't show it to someone in a restaurant
or even in the street. It cannot be concealed where the outline of the gun
shows through the fabric. The only time it can be displayed is if I'm in a
gun shop or there's high probability that someone will get hurt badly. Badly
is hard to define but if the gun is brandished there better be a g'damned
good reason for it. No one walks around with a .44 on their hip... Smile

We save that for Arizona. There, open carry is still the law. For the rest
of us, flashing the "concealed" weapon is a grievous assault, amounting to a
threat to use its lethal force.

I have difficulty imagining when lethal force would become justified to stop
dirt bikers annoying you. Whether it's a firearm, or a clothesline stretched
across his path is immaterial.

Maybe that's the real reason for adopting more "liberal gun laws." Life
takes on a less cartoonish quality once the consequence of your actions
become real and immediate, rather than merely fantasy. Be that as it may, I
can no more tolerate that kind of talk than the "Clockwork Orange" type of
attack that JW related to us. I wonder if you see the same fine line I do
between your gruesome fantasy talk, and the beatings that were dealt out.

Unfortunately in most , if not all states and countries that would
make any injuries the responsibility of the property owner such as
traps and "set guns"

In the newspaper a year or two back, an older couple who lived out in
the country (Iowa or maybe Kansas) had a number of break ins. It
seemed that quite often when they would go away the place would get
robbed again. So IIRC the old man set up a shotgun to point at a
basement window and set the gun to go off if the window was opened.
Sure enough it was a guy from down the road. (In attacks like CR has
chronicled, or break-ins the culprits are usually some one you know or
in the neighborhood).

At any rate they hauled the guy off to jail/hospital and it turns out
he had a record the proverbial mile long. The guy gets out of the
hospital and is found guilty of breaking and entering. HOWEVER he
sued the couple who BTW I believe were also found guilty of using what
is called a "set gun".

In addition to having stolen a few things from the old couple the
crook ended up winning the lawsuit and basically every thing they
owned. He now has the farm and they were broke.

Had they not resorted to the set gun they would have been fine.

Up here in the "civilized North" <Smile) you have to feel some one is
being threatened, but protecting property is not enough. Of course if
some one is rampaging through your property destroying everything in

Most areas take a dim view of shooting them while escaping even when
it's the police doing the shooting. They can only use deadly force it
the perp is escaping in such a manner they think the general public is
in danger.

One thing I should point out it in these situations and this even goes
for the police, your fine motor skills go out the window when the
adrenalin is pumping. You would be lucky to hit the car let alone the
assailant.

WARNING <soapbox mode on>

The mob mentality has been with us as long as there have been mobs or
gangs. It only takes one leader to get the testosterone poisoning
flowing.

Although I may not like most of the stuff coming out of Hollywood,
they are producing what "we" the public want. If they didn't it
wouldn't sell. I don't watch the watered down versions of the programs
and movies shown on network TV. They completely ruin the original.
I watch shows for escapism, but I still expect enough realism to make
it believable. OTOH I've never watched a "Reality Show" from start to
finish. I've been around long enough to find them boring.

It's like blaming Detroit for all the gas guzzlers when they produced
them because we wanted them. Marketing just put the best spin on their
own models.

Our society, or perhaps I should say the "human race" has a great
propensity to deny, or refuse to take responsibility. It always has to
be someone else's fault. " It was the cops fault because I got the
speeding ticket for 30 over, it's Detroit's fault because we have all
the big gas guzzlers, or it's Hollywood's fault the gangs run wild.

Now I could made some exceptions for some of the violent games
available as the designers are also the players, but other than that
exception, it's "OUR" fault as a society for wanting these things.
OTOH with all the fights, I list professional hockey right up there
as a problem. I love hockey, but not what I see the pros doing on TV.

In America we have had a love affair with the car since day one and it
comes natural with the wide open spaces. The HP race is also natural,
but given the right imputes so could the race to see who gets bragging
rights for the best mileage albeit does go against the testosterone
poisoning problem.
BTW, Now it's China and India's turn for the affair with the
automobile. Think gas is expensive now? Wait until those two countries
are clamoring for their share.

>
> I alluded to it recently on this n/g, when I made a comment re the now
>long-term effects of Hollywood's produce, etc, so as its well OT for this
>n/g, I'm not going to rabbit on anymore about it, but you mate's just
>experienced it first hand, IMHO.

These things have gone on since before we were thrown out of Europe to
build our own country here in the US and another country was a penal
colony. BTW we didn't escape persecution. We were the rabble rousers
and trouble makers they were happy to see leave. The manner and
technology has changed but the gangs existed then as now. The main
differences between then and now is the instant news and there are a
LOT more of us. Gangs, kids, and some deviates create atrocities and
it's on the news by the time they get home. Within days there are
copycats on the news. It's there because we expect to know what
happens when it happens.

There has always been a faction that was easily impressionable be
they young, old, or groups and whether the medium was a story teller,
a book, movie, or game. There has also been that faction that can't
discern reality from fantasy. Fortunately both factions are small in
relation to the total, but when we count people in the billions it
still makes for quite a few people.

BTW who knows what the largest terrorist action was on US soil and
when? One hint. It wasn't 9/11

Hi Roger,

Interesting, but I'm already on the prowl, mate.

I've found a few like-minded blokes, already, and the # looks like
growing very quickly.

Yeehaawwww!!

Just to give you some idea of what we're about to combat, an 11 year-old
has been officially charged with that bashing of the off-duty policeman by ~
20 youths, where he was bashed unconscious, just going for a stroll with his
girlfriend!!!! Yeah, thats right, 11 years old, the fucking little cunt!!!!
The parents - who knows, mate!!!!

"Schoolies" is over, for another year, with only one other major
incident...

Regards,
John Ward

A couple of years ago? That story has been going around since I was a kid...40
years ago. It might even have been going around earlier than that but I wasn't
around to check it out.

Be that as it may, screw 'em. Put up the cable anonymously on public land and
if you're questioned: deny, deny, deny.

Had they hit one of the kids, I would gladly pull anny peagun I could lay my
hands on, and pop a head or two.

However:

1) In this country, it's illegal to carry a veapon, eaven a knife with a
blade longer than 2½", and then only if you can prove, that it's in your
pocket for some legal use, like work related.

2) If those motorised loonies would have been stopable in anny other way,
that would have made things easyer, but two mothers, another man, and I, had
all tryed in vaine, to make them stop, the easy way, one of the mothers had
eaven thrown a broom at the wheels on one of them, so after one half hour of
their iresponsible behaviur, drastick messures were needed to keep the small
kids safe (4 - 8 years young)

3) No hiding in anny bushes, I was standing as short as I am, right next to
the lamppost, waiting for them to arrive, so they could get the teaching
lesson verbally as well. (Un)fortunately they had eithe spottet the plot, or
discovered that more parrents were arriving, so I never got to see my idea
in work.

4) we are talking motorcycles running about 20-25Mph, not motorbikes with
150cc+ engines, so the maximum injurys (had they hit the rope) would have
been them falling off their rides, and a bended handlebar.

5) I don't know what it would be like, holding a veapon with live rounds,
while pulling the trigger, at a real live person, since I've luckyly never
had to, but I do have 14 years of millitary training (13 as a SGT), in urban
warfare, and a few years training as a sniper, so if I had to, I would
propably hit what I aim for, and maybe be able to make it count, but you'll
never know till you've tryed it, would you? :o/

It would be the deepest of ironies, and I have to admit wondering now, if
JW's friend didn't do more than just shout and wave loudly at the
dirtbikers.

I believe it was the Oklahoma City bombing of Federal building... Home
grown terrorist - although I'm not sure what the overall point of the
question is...

Right state, but almost 3/4 of a century late.

It's been so long I forgot...No wait. It was in reference to gangs
terrorizing neighborhoods and in particular CL's recount of the attack
on his friend, which sorta led me to think about the present state of
terrorism. That led to gang related terrorism and actions.

The worst case I can find is called "Black Wallstreet" It happened
back in Tulsa, OK. June 1921. The death toll in the 30 some block area
of Tulsa was over 3,000. It used to be found easily but just in the
last year even the entry in Wiki has been highly edited and it now
only shows a toll of about 300. This was not a slum area but one of
wealthy people, many of whom were millionaires. Millionaires in the
early 20's. That means they were really rich. <Smile)
