Anyone who knows overclocking knows the risk.
Secondly it's from Tom's Hardware .... A very reputable site that has
excelent info on it. If your into computer hardware at all you should
be looking at reviews from Tom's.
and lastly the tutorial is step by step and yes use at your own risk
of course.

Cheers,
Chris

That overclocking of videocart and cpu is a kind of cult.
It is easier to find 5 till 10 frames inside the simprog.
My first install of fsx I was on 10 frames, now after some
modifications, incl my traffic and fscommander I am above 25 frames.

Dude,

I've done precisely this with my 8800GTX's and they sing beautifully.

The neat thing about modding the bios is that you can control the
shader clocks in older forceware versions.

You can do this in rivatuner 2.06 for some of the newer versions, but
it's a bit twichy.

I've had very good luck with determining my best oc, then setting it
in the gpu's bios so that it will boot to those settings.
Very Simple, easy, and reliable.

It is unlikely that most will see ANY difference if FPS in FSX
by overclocking the video card, at least in the case of a
8800GTS 640MB card.
I have overclocked my 8800 by 32% and see no change in FPS
in FSX versus the stock clocking.

OTOH, overclocking my Q6600 by 36% does appear to yield
improvements in FSX, mainly more smoothness.

FSX has seemed to be CPU-bound from the start. Not GPU-bound.

YMMV of course.
