Hi,

I have been asked the following question on this forum:

Can you comment on PDMG? is it as good as PIC? what's your opinion?

I would not dare to make a compariaon between the two. Both have their inconditional afficionados and even trying to imply that one or the other is better will end up in heated and useless argumentation.

Let me only say this. In the actual stage of both aircrafts PIC is certainly more matured even on FS2002. PMDG is still in the process of making improvements and the way is still long in my opinion.

In the final analysis I could easily imagine PIC version 2 will be so different from any aircraft available for PC based simulation that PMDG will have a major role to play as a traditional simulation.

Alone the network gauges feature (if it ever happens) in PIC 2 will take the simulation concept to totally different levels. PMDG may offer attractive solutions in terms of FMC improvements, Terrain display on NDs, integrated weather display etc... This however will only be features available for the 800 and 900 series.

I guess the two aircrafts (whether in their actual form or the future versions) are targeting two different segments of flight simulation enthusiasts. PIC is a flightdeck simulation where the liveries, cabin and outside paints are of much lesser importance. PIC is a long haul aircraft which make trans-oceanic flights possible (an attraction for online simmers). PMDG is more balanced in terms of flightdeck versus exteriors simulation and it remains a B-737 with its range limitations.

In conclusion I think we should be thankful to the creators of both products (and by the way I would also include PSS for their great aircrafts) who in their own ways try to statisfy the serious simmers without compromizing too much.

A last word for all those terrific addons which make the simulation even more realistic. Whether it is NavData or FSBuild or Servinfo or ActiveSky or FSUIPC and the list could go on for ever. Thanks to all.

I hope I did not offend anyone with these comments.
