Yesterday, I decided to take a drive to the area near Pearson Int'l
Airport. I stopped into one of my favourite stores which is located
outside the airport around Rwy. 23 on the east side. The store is
called Aviation World and carries just about anything and everything a
pilot or person in love with flying would want to buy.

As I was perusing the flight DVD's which they sell, I noticed one
produced by a company which featured 178 minutes of flying on a
Swissair A340. There were four flights, from Zurich to Bangkok and
Zurich to Singapore. The captain's name as printed on the cover is
Capt. Conrad. This gentleman is a very tall (in comparison to the
rest of the crew), very slender, good-looking fellow. He appeared to
fit the profile of an A340 captain. In fact, he looked very similar
to your picture, without the grey hair : )

I was just wondering, sir, if you know this gentleman or any of his
crew and if you are familiar with this video. I didn't buy it yet,
likely because it was rather expensive and I just wasn't sure if it
would be good or not.

I believe the video was made in 2003. Do you have any comments about
Capt. Conrad or the DVD?

Arthur,

I haven't seen the video myself but the information I gathered about it is
mainly in a positive manner although some people criticized about missing
in-depth information on some of the Airbus' cockpit goodies. Capt. Stephan
Conrad is one of my former colleagues on the A330 fleet and in fact the one
that gave me the farewell handshake upon my dismissal from active service in
2001 Smile) (not his fault. He was deputy fleet chief at that time...) A very
nice and well respected fellow. Just to make it sure: it's a video about a
SWISS flight which is the successive company of SWISSAIR, built from the
scrapped remainders of SWISSAIR .. Smile). There's a MD-11 video from SWISSAIR
which is regarded to be even better and more detailed.

Sorry to barge in.. but there seems to be several good Swiss MD-11
videos. Check out: http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=SWISSAIR+MD-11

Swissair MD-11 checkerboard Hong Kong:

Did this one get reprocessed by `the bank?´

Zurich in 1991:

Strange, but was thinking of posting a DC-10 / MD-11 takeoff video
just the other day! Smile) Customers weren't too happy ultimately with
the MD-11 fuel economy, which couldn't match what MacAir originally
projected? true or nadda-true?

I love flying it in my sim, it's my favorite big metal, mostly because it
goes faster than most others (470kts at 10.000ft and Mach 0,9 above), don't
know if that's realistic or not, but nice for a quickie ;o)

Brillian :o)

Never though about the effects of fog, it looks realy nice with those small
clouds building in front of the engines, and above the wings, realy shows
what kind of forces, that are working on an A/C taking off.
