It might have been. I do segmented flight plans in FSX and haven't had the problem crop up. I never thought about the quirk in FS9 until you brought it up. It just became second nature to choose my save point on a long flight. I also do a save point about 50 miles from destination in case I mess up the approach, but that's a different story.
