Progressive taxi in FSX Not logged in -   Reply

I have installed FSX on a new Vista computer. After the IFR clearance is
received, I press the appropriate button for Progressive Taxi (usually 3),
but I don't get the pink track I was used to in FS9. I don't get anything
despite switching the progressive taxi on and off a number of times.

Any ideas, guys?

Progressive taxi in FSX is not pink - it is a yellow raised arrow that
you can't miss. Did you go outside your aircraft and look all around in
case it appeared behind you?

Many thanks for a prompt reply.

I this a single yellow arrow or a line of arrows? I have looked around
everywhere but cannot see anything.

Best regards

Sorry. A better description would be a line of arrows much the same as
a dinosaur's back - a flat arrow on the ground, with a raised center
arrow vertically oriented - all yellow. If you don't see it, try upping
your "ground objects" slider just a tad

With the help of another forum I have found that switching off DX10 preview
allows the yellow arrows to spring into life. Many thanks for your help.
guys.

Ah. Never having DX10 Preview, I never thought of that. Thanks for
posting back.

Thought I was spending good money to get a DX10 card for FSX. What a
disappointment. Wonder if FSX will ever be a DX10 game ?

Re: Progressive taxi in FSX [In reply to FSXAl] Not logged in -   Reply

   Exactly.
The service packs bring a feature under the graphics options called DirectX
10 preview, but enabling it also junks other game features.
As you have mentioned; progressive taxi is one thing that gets broken. The
progessive taxi line flickers briefly right after you request it, but it is
not visible for more than a flash. Also, sometimes the mission waypoint
indicators and mission compass will not work with the DirectX 10 preview
enabled.

So, at best, this is a BETA feature to show off some of the more complex
features of DirectX 10 - but its not perfect yet.
If I had to guess, Microsoft will duff this off on the driver, and your
driver supplier will duff it off on Microsoft. So until the whole WHQL
certification - (the anwer-all/solve all problem fixer for VISTA) - finally
means what it is supposed to, then we are again left to just sit and wait.
