I much prefer the 3D or virtual cockpits when they are properly designed. Most of them so far are not much good because of lack of detail and so on. Flying seems much more realistic to me in a proper 3D cockpit, although for IFR practice I guess the 2D panels are more useful. Take a look at the Dreamfleet Cessna Cardinal Virtual cockpit, if you get the chance. It is much more fun to fly VFR with it than with the panel. It can also be adjusted too, by using the View Options or by changing the Aircraft .cfg file as required. I am hoping that FS2004 will have the best sort of quality in this regard.
