Thanks for the thoughts. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to dig real deep to fix this but that's what I'm going to have to do. My machine is an Intel board based machine with onboard audio and network. Both machines that I have tried 2004 on are running ATI 9000 series AGP video cards. The machine that 2004 works on has a SoundBlaster audio add-on card but does have onboard network. Both machines are running Windows XP. All drivers are the latest available for network, audio, video and mainboard for the machine that 2004 doesn't work on. I've tried 2004 on my machine disabling all services and all startup program except for Microsoft services. Therefore, I'd have to conclude that its likely one of peripheral "cards." So, I'm going to swap the SoundBlaster audio card and see if that works. Again, thanks for the suggestion.
