HI,
sorry to be an A-HOLE...any on that tells ya its because it doesnt like
Radeon chips is just plain mad.....Try getting a set of drivers about 1
yr or 1 and a half yrs old for your Radeon card and then try the game.
Dont use drivers that are optimized for DX8 or 9..Jetfighter is an old
game and requires old drivers(believe it or not)i had the same
problem.....Good luck!!

Boogie,
Back when http://www.jetfighteriv.com/ was an active site. I visited the
forum often to find a solution to the incompatibility of JF4 and my ATI
Radeon 9700 Pro Card. There were many posts complaining about the problem.
There were a few posts identifying the "secondary monitor" solution. Ther
was not a single post offering a solution through the use of different video
drivers.

So sorry about my confusing choice of words, but the spirit of my message
still seems valid. JF4 hates :) Radeon Cards.

JF5 works okay with my Radeon but that's another topic....

Short answer: JF4 is designed for Win98 and was never tested on XP.
Talonsoft went the way of the dodo so you don't have any support left
either. There were some Hotfixes that seem to mess up JF4 on XP,
but some people got it to run okay, and others don't.

Why even bother? Even according to its specs, this was never a
groundbreaking flight sim. I remember the first two JF games. The
first one seemed groundbreaking because it was one of my first VGA
games. Repetitve game play and not-very realistic gameplay, boring
scenery, a suspect scenario - I mean what is it that you want?

The scenario was the best part of the JF series. Attack the US in Cali from
Mexico. Hell I live in California and sometimes I wonder if it isnt
actually happening right under our noses now :-)

Again, I was speaking about the first 2 games. Even though they were
set in California, the scenery was so sparse that - except for LA &
SF, you might as well be anywhere. Also, even while in the game, it's
hard to get any more than a bare sense of a war going on under yoru
noses - buildings that are enemy targets, smaller boxes meant to be
trucks, no more obvious targets like SAM sites or hostile MiGs parked
on airbases. This easily became the most dated sim with the release
of "Falcon 3.0". It didn't help that they (like me) picked the YF-23
to win the ATF competition, only to see it lose a few months (was it
that long) later. Even so, the addition of the F-23 added little if
anything to the game (it was nifty, if possibly unrealistic to get
bumped when passing through mach-1, and cooler now that you could do
that w/o using afterburner, but most missions were so short that fuel
was seldom an issue). In the end, the game was fun for carrier
trapping and flying under SF's bridges, but even that got old fast.

Well for give me for being tricked then. cause as i type this to you in
reply i am reading on the cover as i did in the store before i bought it,
compable with windows95/98&Xp. It is on the back of the CD plastic
case. Like i said i got it home and found out that that is not the case.
It should say compable with xp only if you know how to modifiy your
ini files and maybe even then it wont work. I could have use the
money to bye some other flightsim. thats my point. I love the fact
that i come to this forum looking for a fix only to find out after i
bought this crap that it was never ment to play on Xp.
well i just made a three point shot into the trash can hooah.

This is not the point though. It's how they say it is
compatable with said OS, and it never worked to begin with. I also
have this game, and found it to not work under WinXP as well. I had to
setup an extra PC with Win98SE.
Even though it's not a serious sim, it is however a fun "light
sim". For users who are not into reading 300 page flight manuals to
just get down the runway, this is a nice flight sim still.

I have this sim, and my copy says it's supposed to be WinXP
compatable as well, but that's not the case. I have an extra PC here,
so I setup Win98SE on it to play this, and other games that refuse to
run under WinXP.
As for JF5, I have it as well. It runs fine under WinXP, but
it is not as good as JF4. I think a different developer made it, and
it has a cheap feel to it. The multiplayer patch doesn't have an
internet server browser like JF4 does, so finding online games is
reduced to emailing, IRC, or IM people to setup games.
As a side note. I have another game called Red Jets. Both JF5,
and Red Jets are the same game, except there are different jets to
fly, and the scenerios are different. JF5: America is good guys. Red
Jets: Russia is good guys, America is bad. Other than that, the games
are the same. Pretty cheesy. :(

Hi,
JetFighter IV is an imperfect game. It was released incomplete and never finished. What there is of JF4, is simply "The most FUN" and easiest to learn flight sim ever. Without exception!

Many of the "Bugs" mentioned have been addressed and resolved by users.

The overwhelming majority of JF4 customers are operational with "no adjustments" at all! A small percentage of JF4 systems require minor "Tweaking." Toward that end, we have created a WinXP/JF4 "How-To" article guide users through. 99% of the users that DO require tweaking get operational by completing just the first 2 suggestions on the page! There is a whole page of WinXP tips to help those that are suffering from "additional issues." Here is a link to the page.

http://www.JF4.US Hope this helps. Hope to see you soon "in the air."
Best Regards,
Steve "Sting-USA"
