Road traffic is the biggest offender. As vehicles appear on the screen they obviously use memory, but that memory is not released quickly on their disappearance. Very dense autogen also tends to stay after out of view. If you want to try it, fly the Lear at about 2000' AGL at 250 Kts over a densly populated area following an interstate for about a half hour, len land at a major airport and use F12 for the top down view and zoom out. For example: With everything maxed, take off from NY, La Guardia in the Lear, fly out to the end of Long Island at 2000' AGL, while staying over the most dense autogen and road traffic, at 250 kts. Do a 180, fly back to KLGA, land, and press F12 and zoom far out, then back in. What happens is you're collecting objects in memory faster than FSX releases them, until you run out of available memory. The top down view is the final straw. Even with 3 or 4 GB of RAM this can happen because only 2 GB of virtual addressing space is available for applications, and FSX isn't the only user of this space. Usually occurs when fsx.exe exceeds 1.7 GB.
