Taxi Question Not logged in -   Reply

Going thru the flight training in FS2004. I am not a pilot in real life but am having a ball with this sim. Question about taxiing --- I seem to recall from one of the sim lessons that when you come to a double yellow line with dashed yellow lines on the other side at a tower-controlled airport, you need tower permission to cross. Is this right?? If it is, I don't think MSFS2004 models this. When I taxi up to one of these double yellow lines and stop and check with ATC I don't see any options for such permission. So I just look both ways and proceed. Help. Thanx.
I am a geologist - not a pilot.

I think you don't need a specific permission to cross the line, when you are authorized for taxiing (there is a patern to follow) crossing it will be the only way to go.

In real life the patern is described in the AIP.(http://en.wikipedia.org/...ormation_Publication)

Hi,

If you are taxiing to the active runway as directed by ATC then you do not need to hold short of that runway unless directed to by ATC. Since you have already been cleared to cross that particular runway. However, i would not discourage you to stop and look both ways before crossing any runways (like mom used to say) just in case. But dont loiter there as you may be backing up other planes behind you or those in the air waiting for clearance to land on the runway that you are crossing..Hope that helps
